Aluminium foil is made from high - purity aluminium (often 99%+ pure, sometimes with added elements for strength) through a process starting with hot - rolling large ingots into thick sheets and then cold - rolling to a thinness of 0.006 - 0.2 mm using a tandem mill; it features high flexibility, excellent barrier properties against moisture, oxygen, light and bacteria, good heat conductivity, and high reflectivity of light and heat, has a shiny and a matte side due to the rolling process, and is widely used in households for food storage, cooking, and in industries for packaging, insulation, and electronic shielding.
