1035 Carbon Steel Rod

1035 steel bar is most commonly characterized as a medium carbon grade, and as such is a popular “workhorse” grade of steel.

1035 steel bar is often supplied in hot rolled, cold drawn, turned & polished, annealed, and or coated conditions; both in bar lengths or packaged into wire rod.

AISI 1035 steel is a medium tensile steel supplied in the black hot rolled or normalized condition. It has a Brinell hardness ranging between 170 and 210 and tensile strength of 570 – 700 MPa. AISI 1035 steel has good machinability, good weldability, and high strength and impact properties in either the normalized or hot rolled condition. SAE 1035 steel has a low through-hardening capability with only sections of size around 60 mm being recommended as suitable for tempering and through-hardening. However, it can be efficiently flame or induction hardened in the normalized or hot rolled condition to obtain surface hardnesses in the range of Rc 54 – Rc 60 based on factors such as section size, type of setup, quenching medium used ,etc.

1035 Carbon Steel Chemical Composition

1035 carbon steel is classified as a medium carbon steel, with a specific composition that defines its properties.

Element Content
Silicon (Si) ≤0.35%
Manganese (Mn) 0.60%-0.90%
Sulfur (S) ≤0.050%
Phosphorus (P) ≤0.040%

The balance of these elements results in a material that combines moderate strength with excellent formability, making it suitable for a wide range of industrial applications.
