Galvanized Steel Coil

Galvanized Steel Coil is a corrosion-resistant steel product made by coating a steel coil with a layer of zinc or zinc alloy. It is widely used in construction, automotive, appliances, and other industries. The zinc coating is applied through hot-dip galvanizing (HDG) or electrogalvanizing (EG) processes, significantly extending the steel’s service life.

Galvanized Steel Coil is a continuous, rolled steel product coated with a protective zinc layer through hot-dip or electro-galvanizing processes. This zinc coating provides exceptional resistance to rust, corrosion, and environmental degradation, making it ideal for high-volume manufacturing and industrial applications. Available in varying widths and thicknesses, these coils are lightweight, versatile, and designed for long-term durability in harsh conditions.

Common Surface Treatments:

1.Oiled Surface

Purpose: Prevents white rust (zinc oxide) during storage or transportation by creating a temporary protective film.

Applications: General-purpose coils for construction, automotive, and appliances.

Types: Light oil (e.g., DOS oil) or heavy oil coatings.

2.Chromated (Passivation)

Purpose: Forms a chromium oxide layer to improve corrosion resistance and adhesion for subsequent painting.

Process: Hexavalent or trivalent chromium passivation (eco-friendly).

Applications: Automotive parts, electronics, and pre-painted coils.

3.Phosphated

Purpose: Creates a phosphate layer to enhance paint adhesion and corrosion resistance.

Applications: Coils intended for painting, powder coating, or industrial machinery.

4.Painted/Coated

Purpose: Adds color, UV resistance, and additional protection.

Types:

Pre-Painted (PPGI/PPGL): Coated with polyester, PVDF, or silicone-modified paints.

Electro-Coated (E-Coating): Uniform primer layer for complex shapes.

Applications: Roofing, cladding, and decorative panels.

5.Laminated

Purpose: Bonds a polymer film (PVC, PET) to the surface for scratch resistance and aesthetic appeal.

Applications: Interior décor, signage, and appliance surfaces.

6.Anti-Fingerprint (AFP)

Purpose: Applies a thin organic coating to resist fingerprints and smudges.

Applications: Stainless steel-like finishes for elevators, appliances, and consumer electronics.

Technical Comparison of Treatments

Treatment Thickness Key Benefits Industry Standards
Oiled 0.5–3 g/m² Prevents white rust, easy to clean ASTM A653, JIS G3302
Chromated 0.1–1.0 µm Enhances paint adhesion, RoHS-compliant EN10346, ISO 5002
Phosphated 1–5 µm Improves corrosion resistance ASTM B201
Pre-Painted 15–25 µm (per side) UV resistance, customizable colors ASTM A755, EN10169
Laminated 20–200 µm Scratch-proof, decorative finishes ASTM D6864
Anti-Fingerprint 0.5–2 µm Smudge-free surface, aesthetic retention Proprietary (e.g., POSCO AFP)
