Client: A leading energy conglomerate in the UAE

Objective: Construct a 320-km high-pressure natural gas pipeline to transport 40 million cubic meters/day of gas across rugged desert terrain.

Require: Ensuring corrosion resistance, weld integrity, and longevity under extreme operating conditions (design pressure: 12 MPa, ambient temperature up to 50°C).

Why API 5L X70 Steel with 3LPE Coating selected？

To meet the project’s stringent requirements, our team recommended:

1. Material: API 5L X70 steel

• Grade: X70 (Yield strength ≥ 483 MPa, Tensile strength ≥ 565 MPa)
• Dimensions: 20 mm wall thickness, 1,219 mm outer diameter
• Compliance: API 5L/ISO 3183, DNV-OS-F101 for offshore standards

2. Manufacturing Process:

• JCOE Forming: Precision cold bending and expanding ensured uniform wall thickness and ovality <1%.
• Submerged Arc Welding (SAW): Automated welding with X-ray/ultrasonic testing achieved 100% defect-free seams.

3. Corrosion Protection:

• 3LPE Coating: Three-layer polyethylene system (epoxy primer + adhesive + PE topcoat) provided:
• Abrasion resistance: >10 μm/mil (ASTM D968)
• Cathodic disbondment: ≤8 mm (48h, 65°C, ISO 21809-1)
• Operating temperature: -40°C to 80°C
